Why This Blog Exists?—Maturity in Christ

growing up into christ

Many Christians believe the gospel, love Christ, and genuinely desire to grow—yet quietly feel stuck. Scripture is familiar, but growth feels slow. Obedience may continue, but joy feels lacking. Seasons of stagnation are far more common than we like to admit. I know this personally, because I have walked through many such seasons myself.

These seasons are often confusing. We know the Christian life is meant to be one of growth, and yet the path forward can feel unclear. The problem is rarely a lack of sincerity or desire. More often, it is something quieter and harder to see—a hidden problem beneath the surface of contemporary Christianity.

What is the root of this problem? How can Christians and churches better address this hidden problem and experience the abundant life of abiding in Christ?

I submit that discipleship is often assumed rather than intentionally pursued. Moreover, maturity in Christ is treated as optional, advanced, or reserved for leaders.

But the Bible teaches that all believers ought to strive for maturity in Christ. This was the clear aim of Paul’s ministry as expressed to the Colossian church in Colossians 1:28–29.

We were never meant to remain spiritual infants. And so, this blog is aimed at helping believers grow in maturity. Here is what you can expect moving forward…

1. A Clear Biblical Aim: Mature in Christ

Colossians 1:28 reveals a single, unambiguous aim of Paul’s life and ministry. He says:

“Him [Christ] we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that we may present everyone mature in Christ.”

The Christian life is not merely about conversion, but formation into the likeness of Christ.

Maturity does not mean perfection, but it does mean increasing conformity to Christ in:

  • belief – growing clarity and confidence in what Scripture teaches
  • character – increasing in humility, patience, and faithfulness
  • affections – deepening love for Christ and hatred of sin
  • obedience – more consistent and joyful submission to Christ in every area of life

2. The Means God Uses: Proclaiming Christ

Notice the means that Paul employs to pursue maturity in Christ:

“Him we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom…” (Colossians 1:28)

In other words, proclamation of Christ leads to maturity in Christ. And proclamation of Christ includes:

  • Warning – Naming and exhorting against distortions, dangers, and false paths
  • Teaching – Naming and exhorting toward the true path of righteousness in Christ

Therefore, this blog will seek to proclaim Christ, warning and teaching, that the believer may be presented mature in Christ.

3. The Posture Behind the Work: Struggle with His Power

While we seek maturity in Christ, this is not ultimately achieved by our own effort. Rather, it is God’s work within us.
And yet, it requires effort on our part.

This is why Paul says:

“For this I toil, struggling with all his energy that he powerfully works within me.” (Colossians 1:29)

Therefore, discipleship is labor:

  • It is slow
  • It is costly
  • It is often unseen

But, faithful persistence in Christ leads to transformation by the power of God within the believer.
